TEPPFA Forum 2014 a Success!

On the 29th of April TEPPFA hosted the First Green Week Official Satellite event 2014- TEPPFA Forum at the Hotel Metropole in Brussels. More than 140 representatives of the industry, politics and the media attended the conference and the gala dinner held in the Bozar Museum

High level speakers including Karl Falkenberg, Director General of the DG Environment, industry stakeholders as well NGO representatives debated the topics of circular economy during the first workshop. From the discussions it appeared clear that while a ban on plastics landfill is necessary, more has to be done to  permit the wider re-use or material recycling especially in terms of REACH compliance.

During the workshop on environmental sustainability of construction works, the European Commission representatives, Michele Galatola and Tapani Mikeli, announced that the EC intends to work towards aligning  existing methods (EN15804 in this specific case) and standards to assess environmental performances of construction products, with the objective of favoring “green” comparisons, and higher levels of recycling and reuse. Christophe Sykes, Director General of Construction products CPE, underlined the need for clear references in terms of sustainability in the building sector. The coinciding revision period, 2017, for both environmental assessment methods would provide the opportunity for the European Commission to work together with industry representatives, LCA practitioners and standardization bodies towards a common approach.

The event was organized in cooperation with The European PVC Window Profile and Related Building Products Association, EPPA.
